Greetings!
I’m going to be moving soon and I’m ready to part ways with my collection of the Glimpses newspapers. Would anyone like to take them off of my hands?
They are fun to leaf through. Let me know and we’ll set up a time for you to pick them up. Thanks!

If you’ve made your way to this site via the articles in The Winfield Glimpses newspaper currently being circulated in the Village Chronicles newspaper….Welcome!
While I am no longer adding to this site on a regular basis…there’s plenty of stuff to look at. There are several ways to travel around this site. Click on any of the archive links for random past posts…or check out a “Category” for something more specific…and if you’re looking for something really specific, try a search in the search box.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find something you like.

Sad to say but I’m ceasing these Glimpses posts…at least on the schedule I have been doing for the last 3 1/2 years. Hope you’ve enjoyed reading them as I have enjoyed posting them. I may post something in the future if I come across something cool (or feel like commenting on something), but the three posts per week is over. In honor of this occasion, I’m including the front of the last Glimpses and then the front of the first Examiner….both from June of 1976. I’ll keep this site up for future reference…thanks again for reading!
This represents my 535th post….not a bad run!

Technically I shouldn’t be posting these pictures, because they come from the Examiner instead of the Glimpses…but what the heck, I like ’em and I want to share ’em. This Examiner issue had info about the upcoming Good Ole Days celebration and as was the case with the Glimpses, they liked to showcase old photos relative to Winfield. Here are the ones that were published in September of 1977…

Back in the 1950’s, comic books were the scourge for our youth and mothers were keeping an eye on things as we learn in this Glimpses article circa August of 1954…
and here are a few other tidbits from the same issue…

In May of 1963 the Glimpses reported on a new ambulance service for the Winfield area…the H & J Ambulance Service…
and today’s post is brought to you by my shameless plug. If you’d like to learn about home coffee roasting…I’ll be holding a “class” on the topic at the Winfield Public Library this Thursday June 19th at 7 pm. If you’d like to sign up…check out the library event calendar for more information… http://www.winfield.lib.il.us/evanced/lib/eventcalendar.asp

In May of 1963, the Glimpses ran a rendering of the forthcoming Abbey nursing home in Winfield…
It was built, closed down many years later…became the Marklund Deicke Home for awhile…and now the building is gone and the property for sale…

This post is brought to you by the LeKander Woodward Funeral Home…

That was a question posed in a Glimpses headline back in March of 1976…

and here’s what it looks like today (June 8, 2014)…
