Think it’s hard getting a business on Roosevelt Road in 2011 (in Winfield anyhow)? Check out this editorial and “letter to the editor” from the March 17, 1976 edition of the Glimpses, in regards to a proposed model home on Route 38. (click each to enlarge)
My favorite part is that raccoon’s and ‘possum might be driven away by the model home project. Guess I need a model home near my house ;).

Well we all know that the CDH part of the story came true, but the nursing home idea at that location fell through.

The other day I received a comment from a former Winfielder, who now lives in Tokyo (the comment is located in the “About” page of this blog). His name is Tim Selander and he is basically looking to get in touch with classmates that he went to kindergarten with in 1963. He has a site set up to accomplish that at www.photos-etcetera.com/kindergarten/Kindergarten_1963.html . Since this blog is really about articles from the Glimpses, I thought I’d tie in that plug to something that Tim might remember…the opening of the new middle school in 1972.

Did you get all your leaves taken care of this Fall yet? I’ve pretty much got mine all mulched up, except for a few maples holding on till the last second. Anyways, today’s post features a Glimpses editorial from November of 1970, addressing the changing times, in what to do with those leaves. (click to enlarge)
Today’s post is brought to you by Morken’s “meat for a week” special…

Back in the early 1970’s, Winfield’s post office began providing new services. Check out these new “luxuries” in today’s Glimpses article below. (click to enlarge)
On a side note, it’s been a year since I started posting three times a week. I have plenty of material to continue at that pace, so thank you for reading and I hope you’ll continue to check in. Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions in regards to this blog. email@example.com

Since today is Veteran’s Day, I thought a Glimpses article covering it would be appropriate. How about from November of 1967? (click article below to enlarge)
And on a personal note, I’d like to wish my father a happy Veteran’s Day and thank him publicly for his service to our country. His name is Charles P. Schramer and he is one of those WWII vets that’s still kicking. Here’s a picture of him from his slide collection (circa sometime in the 1950’s)…
Thanks for serving Dad!
