Believe It Or Don’t

May 5, 2014

I was intrigued by this “Believe It or Not” article in the Glimpses October 1966 issue…

believe it or not

It was sent to the Glimpses by a reader…

letter to the editor

I thought it would be fun to find this tombstone and post a picture of what it looks like today…unfortunately I’ll have to go to Winfield, Alabama to accomplish that…and it doesn’t look like I’m going to be down that way any time soon.
I did go to the two cemeteries that the reader thought the stone might be in, but after coming up empty, I did a little research online and that’s when I found out the story is from Winfield, Alabama and not Winfield, Illinois. Here’s a link to a site that talks about the legend

Bottom line…don’t believe everything you read in newspapers.
